Hannover/Warsaw, 2025 - With the successful completion of its first reforestation project in Poland, lavera Naturkosmetik and the internationally established environmental initiative LifeTerra are setting an example for sustainable action. Together with students and in close cooperation with Polish partners and local forest owners, 1,050 young trees were planted near Warsaw. In doing so, lavera specifically complements Polish initiatives* and simultaneously promotes environmental education and the engagement of young people in the protection and preservation of forests.

Forests in Poland: Climate Change Leaves Its Mark

Poland is one of the most forest-rich countries in Europe, but its forests are also under pressure: climate change, long periods of drought, storm damage, and bark beetle infestations have caused significant damage in recent years. Large areas need to be reforested to preserve Poland’s “green lung.” Forests are not only habitats for countless animal and plant species but are also indispensable for the climate, water balance, and quality of life of the people.

Growing Together: Young People Plant the Future

The project is more than just a planting campaign: lavera, LifeTerra, and local partners are relying on the active participation of young people and are initiating a necessary change through joint planting activities. Sabine Kästner, Sustainability Officer at Laverana, explains: “Environmental education is important to us - because only those who understand the value of nature will protect it. ‘renature with lavera’ combines a love for nature with the desire to take responsibility today for the forests of tomorrow.”

lavera’s Commitment in Europe

For over 35 years, lavera Naturkosmetik has stood for sustainable action - not only in the development of certified natural cosmetics but also through concrete, sustainable projects. For example, the lavera forest project is restoring ecologically valuable areas in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France, Italy, and Poland. The company’s commitment to sustainability and its associated values is also impressively demonstrated in the LifeTerra film on YouTube: lavera Naturkosmetik & Life Terra: Planting the seeds of change

Sabine Kästner adds: “A tree is more than just wood and leaves; it is the future of a living ecosystem and immensely important for the groundwater level. It’s not enough for us to produce natural cosmetics. We want to preserve nature. That’s why company founder and lavera brand creator Thomas Haase launched the lavera forest project a few years ago. Together with LifeTerra, we help private forest owners or support regional initiatives.”

A Tree as a Promise - for Poland, for Europe, for Tomorrow

With the first reforestation project in Poland, lavera and LifeTerra show how real change can grow from joint commitment and a love for nature. Sven Kallen from LifeTerra: “In Poland, we planted English oaks, wild cherries, and wild pears. Every tree planted is a promise to the future, a symbol, and a step toward healthy forests for generations to come.”

Forest Check Poland:

Poland ranks among the top European countries in terms of forest area and has a total of 23 national parks. Between 1995 and 2011, the forest area grew by 388,000 hectares. The basis for this is Poland’s “National Forest Expansion Program*,” according to which the forest share was to reach 30% in 2020 and 33% by 2050. About 65% of all animals live in Poland’s forests. In lowland and upland areas, pine predominates. In the mountains, spruce (in the west) and oak (in the east) dominate. Foresters are moving away from monocultures and are adapting tree populations to natural site conditions through various measures. Beech, alder, poplar, hornbeam, aspen, linden, and willow are becoming increasingly common.

About the Life Terra Foundation:

Life Terra is a non-profit organization based in Amsterdam and Barcelona, co-financed by the European Commission through the LIFE program. Its goal is to restore the relationship with nature and contribute to climate change mitigation through community tree-planting initiatives. www.lifeterra.eu

*Poland’s “National Forest Expansion Program” is officially called Krajowy program zwiększania lesistości (KPZL). It was prepared in 1993 by the Forest Research Institute, approved by the Council of Ministers on June 23, 1995, and serves as a strategic instrument of forestry policy, guiding, among other things, regional spatial planning in increasing forest area.
