Vienna: World records at WestLicht Anniversary Auctions, 18th & 19th November 2016 384,000 Euro for the earliest Nikon camera!

A Nikon One climbed from 90,000 to 384,000 Euro, the highest price ever paid for a camera from the long-standing Japanese manufacturer at an auction. The world record was achieved at the 30th WestLicht Camera Auction in Vienna on 19th November.
The record lot is the earliest known Nikon camera, manufactured in April 1948 as the third production camera by Nikon. This was also an early birthday present for Nikon company, which will celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2017.
Naturally, numerous lots from manufacturer Leitz/Leica finished at top prices: The Leica M3 black paint from famous photographer Herbert List sold for 78,000 Euro.
Two Leica Gun Rifle cameras by E. Leitz New York from 1938 sold for 168,000 Euro each.Among the 687 lots, the first movie camera, a Lumiere Cinématographe from 1895, made 90,000 Euro.
The Kiss for 48,000 Euro
Alfred Eisenstaedt’s legendary V-J Day Kiss (starting price: 8,000 Euro) was worth the amount of 48,000 Euro to a collector, setting a record price for this icon of photography, which depicts a sailor kissing a nurse on Times Square during the celebrations of the end of WWII in 1945. The nurse turned out to be Austrian born Greta Friedman, who passed away only in September this year, originally from Wiener Neustadt, who had emigrated to the US in 1938.
