- Investment in school infrastructure reflects commitment to communities;
- Improved learning environment will boost young students' education.
BERLIN, GERMANY - (Marketwire - August 22, 2012) - Rail technology leader Bombardier Transportation has agreed with Infotech Enterprises to develop and upgrade infrastructure at Zilla Parishad High School, in Khajaguda, Hyderabad. The school, located near Bombardier's Engineering Centre India (BTECI), educates around 600 children and young people aged between three and 15 from underprivileged backgrounds.
A ground breaking ceremony for the school playground was organized at the school premises to mark the ninth anniversary of the engineering partnership between Bombardier and Infotech Enterprises. BTECI serves Bombardier projects around the world, including Indian projects such as Delhi Metro.
The event was attended by Josef Doppelbauer, Chief Technical Officer, Bombardier Transportation; Jan Radtke, Senior Director, Group Engineering, Bombardier Transportation; Venkata Ramayanam, Director - Engineering Centre India from Bombardier Transportation; and Ashok Reddy President - Global HR and Corporate Affairs, Infotech Enterprises, along with employees from both companies. Teachers, students and school staff took part in the event and expressed their gratitude for the support of their school.
Bombardier also plans to upgrade basic infrastructure such as sanitation and furniture at the school. This initiative aims to provide a comfortable and clean environment to help young students learn and thrive.
"Our goal at Bombardier is to create meaningful economic, social and environmental benefits for the communities in which we operate, "Josef Doppelbauer said. "By providing a better learning environment for these pupils, we are helping them to get a foot on the ladder to better education. We are pleased to invest in these young people to improve their career prospects and in doing so support the communities in which we work."
Speaking at the event, Ashok Reddy said: "Started in 2002, an important part of Infotech Enterprises Charitable Trust's vision has been to improve the quality of education imparted to underprivileged children in schools which lack basic amenities. To enable our vision, we have been seeking support from our esteemed customers, the local community and the Government. Today, the Infotech Enterprises trust supports 10 schools around Hyderabad educating a total of around 5,400 underprivileged children."
Bombardier has a strong record of supporting Indian communities, with programmes for local schools, orphanages and Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs). Bombardier has supported infrastructure development in various schools, funding education of underprivileged children near its manufacturing sites in Maneja and Savli, near Vadodara in Gujarat. Bombardier is also offering vocational training for around 175 teenagers in the Delhi region, primarily young women, to improve their career prospects.
