FRANKFURT AM MAIN, Germany, September 13, 2013 /PRNewswire/ - Johnson Controls, a global leader in automotive electronics and interiors, will showcase a door panel manufactured using the new Compression Hybrid Molding (CHyM) process technology at the International Motor Show (IAA) in Frankfurt. This technology, featuring a 40 percent weight reduction, is making its European debut at the show.
"Our innovation management is geared toward the development of technologies that further advance sustainability and lightweight construction. Our experience with natural fibers enables us to develop products that meet the changing needs of our customers and the industry," said Han Hendriks, vice president, Advanced Product Development for Johnson Controls' Automotive Electronics & Interiors. "We believe CHyM is the latest example of a technological advancement that helps differentiate Johnson Controls."
The CHyM process technology for manufacturing door panels integrates the advantages of natural fiber components and thermoplastic injection molding, and combines the benefits of both technologies. Interior components manufactured using this process produce the 40 percent weight reduction.
CHyM provides the highest component strength with reduced weight compared to products in the same cost category. The weight reduction and 30 percent increase in stiffness also simplify door panel assembly to the body-in-white.
Johnson Controls will present its innovations from Sept. 12 - Sept. 22, 2013, at the IAA in Hall 5.1, Booth B28.
