The Warsaw Uprising, one of the most important events in the 20th century history of Poland, broke out on 1 August 1944 in Warsaw, the capital city of Poland.

Journalists interested in providing media coverage of the event (which will welcome, among others, the insurrectionists, international guests, the State authorities of the Republic of Poland and the Mayor of Warsaw), are requested to complete the accreditation form available here, no later than 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, 24 July 2014.

Details on the media coverage will be provided in a separate release.

The programme of the commemorating event, with the locations of the events on 30 July - 1 August for which standard or pool accreditations are necessary, can be viewed here. From 29 July the Press Centre will operate on Zamkowy Square in Warsaw.

Around 350 members of the uprising from various parts of the world, with accompanying persons, will attend the 70th anniversary commemorations of the Warsaw Uprising. The guests will come not only from European countries such as the United Kingdom, Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Switzerland and Sweden but also from overseas countries, including the United States of America, Canada, Australia and also Israel, Guatemala and Argentina. The events commemorating those who fought in the uprising will also be attended by around 280 insurrectionists from the whole of Poland, with accompanying persons.

At the invitation of the Mayor of Warsaw, the commemorations will also feature representatives of cities in which other uprisings against the Nazi regime took place soon before the end of the War, i.e. Paris and Banská Bystrica. Among the participants in the events there will also be emissaries of the capital cities of the Allies - London and Wellington. Berlin will be represented by the Head of the Senate Chancellery of Berlin, and Budapest by the Deputy Mayor.

Guests invited to the 70th anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising will have the opportunity to attend a special screening of the film “Miasto 44 (City 44)” directed by Jan Komasa. The screening will take place on Wednesday 30 July at the National Stadium. The film will be viewed by approx. 10 thousand people, among whom the insurrectionists will hold an honorary position. The screening is to be a symbolic tribute to their courage and heroism.

The details on the media coverage of the event will be provided in a separate release.
