Conference on Federalism

The Embassy of Switzerland in Poland and the College of Europe, Natolin campus, organize a conference on "SWISS FEDERALISM - A MODEL FOR THE EUROPEAN UNION?" with a keynote address by Mr. Matthias Michel, Minister of Economy, Canton of Zug, Switzerland.

The conference will be followed by panel discussion with Prof. Dieter Freiburghaus (Professor emeritus of the Swiss Graduate School of Public Administration), Prof. Francois Saint Ouen (Professor at the University of Geneva), Prof. Jan Erk (Associate Professor and Reader at the University of Leiden) and Mr. Andrew Duff (Member of the European Parliament).

The conference will take place on Friday, 22 March 2013 at 10:00 at the Natolin campus of the College of Europe, Warsaw, Nowoursynowska Street 84.

With the current political and economic challenges, federalism is back on the agenda as a possible way forward for the EU. Can federalism provide solutions to the EU’s current crises of confidence and democratic legitimacy? Can the Swiss experience point the way forward?

Mr. Matthias Michel, Minister of Economy of the Canton of Zug, will lead a distinguished panel and audience of invited guests and students in a discussion of these and other important questions for the future of federalism in Europe.

The conference will be accompanied by an exhibition on "Modern Direct Democracy".
