How EU regions are moving away from coal - Czechs pick gas and nuclear power, Germans to spend EUR 40 billion PAP
The Czech Republic and Germany want to complete the decarbonisation of their economies by 2038, but they are facing problems. Germany, which is to invest EUR 40 billion in mining regions, is struggling with poor public acceptance of the change process in former East Germany areas. The Czech Republic is facing delays in the expansion of their nuclear power system and uncertainty as to the EU policy towards gas as a substitute fuel for coal during the transition period.
